Notes for Contestants about Score Sheet

Preparation and Grooming suitability 

Minimum 6 or more weeks, clean tools, whiteness etc. The suitability of the trim and how it conforms to the accepted breed standard and profile.


Difficulty level of the groom

For example: Descending order of difficultly in the Poodle category  (1)English Saddle Trim, (2)Second Puppy Clip (Scandinavian), (3)Continental Trim, (4)Puppy Trim, (5)German Trim and (6)Modern Trim. The degree of difficulty, can also be based on anything the judge sees from the start to the finished style. For example correction of faults, coat, type.


Dog Handling Skills 

Contestant will be judged during the competition, their handling skills for the dog under their care for their well being and duty of care to keep the dog safe from harm at all times 


Ability to cover defects and enhance its profile

For example, if the dog has a dip in the topline, the person who is stripping is able to cover up the fault then extra points are allocated

The quality of scissoring, shaving and or stripping

The details of the groomer’s work.  Points are awarded for the skills and technique in the usage of scissors, clippers or stripping knives and the results on the coat with these tools and skills. The more detailed the work on the coat, the more points


Balance, symmetry, and smoothness 

For example The length of the legs must be balanced with the depth of the body, length of body must be balanced with the height according to the breed standard.


Presentation of the dog to breed standard and the judge  

The way the dog stacks, condition of the coats, etc. The trim should hold together when a comb is
passed through the coat.
